Tips for free camping on La Gomera with our Campers
The island of La Gomera is a paradise for nature and adventure lovers.
Camping with one of our Campers offers you the freedom to explore their unique landscapes at your own pace. However, it is crucial that your presence does not alter the natural environment of this Canarian jewel. Here are some tips for enjoying responsible and environmentally friendly camping on La Gomera.
Choose your places to spend the night wisely
Although free camping is not officially allowed in many areas, La Gomera has several spots enabled for this purpose. Look for authorized campsites and parking areas (we'll show you some) where you're allowed to spend the night. Avoid parking on protected beaches, natural parks and areas of ecological interest. Respect for local regulations not only guarantees your safety, but it also protects the island's fragile ecosystems.
Manage your waste properly
One of the fundamental principles of responsible camping is to “leave no trace”. Always carry garbage bags with you and collect all your waste. Store them in appropriate containers and, if you don't find one, take them with you until you find a suitable place. Organic waste must also be properly managed so as not to affect local fauna or pollute water resources.
Use biodegradable products
When washing kitchen utensils or showering, use biodegradable products such as those we provide you, that do not harm the environment. Conventional soaps and detergents can be very harmful to local flora and fauna. Always carry a bottle of water with you to avoid excessive use of natural resources and try not to spill liquids on the floor.
Respect fauna and flora
La Gomera is home to a unique biodiversity, with endemic species and delicate ecosystems. Do not pick up plants or disturb any animals you find during your stay. Keep a safe distance from local wildlife and don't feed wild animals. Remember that you are a visitor to their home and any alteration can have serious consequences.
Be aware of noise and light
Being in a natural environment, it's essential to minimize noise and light pollution. Avoid having the engine running and consider using dim lights at night. Not only does this respect the local inhabitants (humans and animals) but it also enhances your experience by allowing you to enjoy the tranquility and starry sky of La Gomera.
